Job Summary

The Associate General Counsel - Employment Law role is a critical position responsible for overseeing labor and employment issues and related litigation for the organization. This role requires a seasoned attorney with expertise in employment law, labor relations, and litigation management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advises on employee benefits matters, including qualified retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and fiduciary governance.
  • Provides day-to-day advice and counsel on state and federal employment laws and regulations, including ADA, FLSA, FMLA, HIPAA, and wage and hour compliance.
  • Develops incentive compensation plans, programs, policies, manuals/handbooks, and related training.
  • Provides advice and counsel regarding legal aspects of recruiting and hiring.
  • Manages all labor and employment-related lawsuits, including risk assessment, oversight of case discovery, and case resolution.
  • Responsible for managing outside counsel, budgets, reporting, and other projects as assigned.
  • Partners with human resources to investigate and provide advice on employment-related issues across the organization.
  • Provides advice and counsel regarding potential employee disciplinary action.
  • Prepares and supervises the preparation of the company's response to any complaints of discrimination filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and state agencies.
Requirements
  • Law degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience in labor and employment law, with 7+ years preferred.
  • Independent problem-solving skills and a high level of analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Strong written and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7 years of labor and employment experience.
  • In-house counsel experience.
  • Financial services experience.
