Job Overview:

This role involves collaboration within a team to oversee the planning and execution of forestry initiatives across various land types, including private, state, and federal territories. The projects focus on critical areas such as hazardous fuel mitigation, enhancement of forest vitality, and restoration of watersheds.

Key Responsibilities:


• Identify and formulate project proposals and planning documents addressing forest and natural resource management issues.

• Analyze planning documents and execute projects in the field related to forest and natural resource management.

• Supervise field personnel and create work plans for project oversight and evaluation; document results and suggest management strategies.

• Collaborate with other forestry and fire management personnel to ensure stakeholder requirements are fulfilled and documented; draft project task orders and oversee contractors and internal teams during project execution.

• Offer technical support to landowners, internal staff, partners, and stakeholders; conduct assessments of forest resources.

• Travel for State business purposes.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• Forest planning, development of site-specific prescriptions, and the components of a comprehensive plan.

• Forest operations, including harvesting techniques and practices utilized in the forestry sector.

• Local forest types and compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.

Skills in:

• Proficiency in software applications such as MS Word, Excel, and ArcGIS-related tools.

• Strong interpersonal abilities that promote effective communication and teamwork.

• Training capabilities in forestry-related topics, safety protocols, and practices.

• Timber assessment, cruising, and valuation of forest stands.

Ability to:

• Effectively engage with others to communicate thoughts, ideas, and information.

• Monitor progress towards objectives and make necessary adjustments to achieve desired outcomes.

• Lead with a constructive and proactive approach.

• Maintain accurate records, prepare documentation, and generate reports.

• Travel for State business purposes.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry or a related natural resource discipline, along with a minimum of 2 years of experience in developing forest management documents and overseeing forestry operations.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

A valid Arizona Driver's License is required.

Employees operating a vehicle for State business must possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license, complete all necessary training, and successfully pass required driver's license record checks. The license must be current and valid, with no revocations or suspensions. Employees who drive for State business are subject to record checks and must maintain acceptable driving records, completing all required driver training. Those using personal vehicles for State business must maintain the legally required liability insurance.

All newly hired State employees must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
