Position Overview:

This role involves collaboration within a team to oversee the planning and execution of forestry initiatives across various land types, including private, state, and federal territories. Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and formulate planning documents addressing forest and natural resource management issues.
  • Interpret planning documents and execute projects in the field related to forest and natural resource management.
  • Guide field personnel and create work plans for project supervision and evaluation; report results and suggest management strategies.
  • Collaborate with forestry and fire management teams to meet stakeholder requirements and ensure proper documentation; draft project task orders and oversee contractors and internal teams during project execution.
  • Offer technical support to landowners, internal staff, partners, and stakeholders; conduct assessments of forest resources.
  • Drive for state-related business activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Forest planning, development of site-specific prescriptions, and the components of a comprehensive plan.
  • Forest operations, including harvesting techniques and practices utilized in the forestry sector.
  • Arizona's forest types and fuel characteristics, along with state and federal environmental compliance regulations.

Skills in:

  • Utilizing computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, and ArcGIS-related tools.
  • Exhibiting strong interpersonal skills that promote effective communication and teamwork.
  • Training others in forestry-related topics, safety measures, and protocols.
  • Timber marking, cruising, and assessing stand value.

Ability to:

  • Effectively communicate thoughts, ideas, and information to others.
  • Monitor progress towards objectives and make necessary adjustments to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Lead with a constructive and proactive attitude.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare documentation, and generate reports.
  • Drive for state-related business activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry or a related natural resource discipline, along with a minimum of 2 years of experience in developing forest planning documents and managing forestry operations.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Possession of a valid Arizona Driver's License is required. All employees operating a vehicle for state business must maintain a current, valid driver's license, complete necessary training, and pass all required driver's license record checks. The license must be valid and not suspended or revoked. Employees driving for state business are subject to driver's license record checks and must maintain acceptable driving records.

Positions in this classification are part of the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
