Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Finance is a key member of the Temple University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) team, reporting directly to the Dean. This role is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the SBDC, working closely with the Dean to execute duties and plan, organize, implement, manage, and evaluate financial activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain financial oversight of all SBDC grant and non-grant funded accounts, including monitoring revenue, budget expenditures, and preparing and processing journal entries, invoice payments, check requests, cash reimbursements, purchase orders, and reconciling department credit cards.
  • Review and analyze fund balances, manage ad-hoc hiring of graduate externs and postdocs, process payroll for student workers, formulate policies, and plan the use of facilities, events, and resources, and enforce operating policy and internal controls.
  • Provide advanced administration management and guidance, including coordinating funding submissions through the Electronic Research Administration system, coordinating submissions of proposals and subsequent invoices with the University Office of Research, communicating with sponsors, and maintaining working relationships with other University departments.
  • Serve as an HR liaison and timekeeper for the department, including oversight of the hiring process of students, part-time employees, instructors, and staff, as well as responsibility for monthly and bi-weekly employee payroll procedures.
Requirements
  • Relevant bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, and/or business management and 3-4 years of directly related experience.
  • Proven track record in organizational budgeting and financial management, experience with general accounting, grant tracking, payroll management, human resources, and general business systems and functions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail, ability to lead across team members, and drive assignments to completion.
  • Ability to multi-task, deliver under pressure, and maintain a solid work ethic and high level of motivation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or MBA
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, and/or business management
Work Environment

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), with the duration of this hybrid work arrangement at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
