Responsibilities
- Coordinate and organize functions and activities in the Central Service Department to ensure efficient processing, sterilization, and distribution of supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of sterile technique principles and perform High Level Disinfection using approved chemical products.
- Operate and monitor steam autoclaves, washers, Sterrad machines, automatic scope reprocessors, cart washers, and ultrasonic washers, ensuring proper function and maintenance.
- Perform daily biological monitoring for all equipment in Central Sterilization and Procedural areas, documenting results accurately.
- Follow established evidence-based procedures, protocols, and policies, adhering to original manufacturer instructions for all duties.
- Identify, clean, and sterilize instruments according to manufacturer instructions, appropriately packaging and assembling instrument sets.
- Responsible for waste disposal and decontamination of contaminated items, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Inspect equipment and instruments throughout procedural steps, verifying condition and operation.
- Assist with cost containment and quality assurance initiatives, promoting efficient departmental operations.
- Pursue professional growth and development, attending in-services and staff meetings, and maintaining knowledge of current trends and technology.
- Share knowledge with peers, promoting professional growth and development within the department.
- Ensure accurate patient charges and credits are issued correctly and processed promptly.
- Responsible for batching patient charges, issues, and credits, compiling and forwarding information to inventory control and data management.
- Support hospital departments with sterilization needs, ensuring seamless collaboration.
- Complete required reports and studies in a timely and accurate manner, maintaining high-quality documentation.
- Manage inventory and control outdates, ensuring optimal supply levels and minimizing waste.
- Inspect equipment and supplies processed within the department, arranging for maintenance as necessary, to ensure safe and proper operating conditions.
- Assist the manager in ensuring Health Care Organizations (accrediting body) requirements are met, maintaining awareness of DNV readiness and ongoing Top 5 board projects.
- Able to pull case carts as required, collecting soiled instruments and equipment for processing.
- Maintain clean work surfaces at all times, adhering to departmental standards.
- Identify and report defective instrumentation/equipment, utilizing the appropriate chain of command.
- Organize, check for function, and assemble instrument sets/trays using count sheets or other documentation for quality monitoring.
- Follow through with requests for patient care equipment from other facilities, maintaining a log of instruments and equipment on loan and return date.
The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment, or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically, the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
