Job Summary

As a Sterile Processing Specialist at CAMC Health System, you will play a critical role in ensuring the effective processing, sterilization, and distribution of supplies, instruments, and equipment to support patient care. This position requires a strong foundation in infection prevention and control, with a focus on maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and organize functions and activities in the Central Service Department to ensure efficient processing, sterilization, and distribution of supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of sterile technique principles and practices.
  • Operate and monitor steam autoclaves, washers, Sterrad machines, automatic scope reprocessors, cart washers, and ultrasonic washers to ensure proper function and maintenance.
  • Perform daily biological monitoring for all equipment in Central Sterilization and Procedural areas, documenting results and taking corrective action as needed.
  • Follow established evidence-based procedures, protocols, and policies to ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks.
  • Identify, clean, and sterilize instruments and equipment according to manufacturer instructions, and package and assemble instrument sets as needed.
  • Manage waste disposal and decontamination of contaminated items, ensuring a safe and healthy environment.
  • Inspect equipment and instruments throughout procedural steps to ensure condition and operation, and report any defects or issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with cost containment and quality assurance initiatives in the department, and participate in continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Pursue opportunities for professional growth and development, attending in-services and staff meetings to stay current with industry trends and technologies.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • No certification, competency, or license required.
Work Schedule and Location

This is a full-time regular position with a varied work schedule. The location is the Women & Children's Hospital, with a specific location in Charleston, WV.
