Position Summary:
The Department of Pediatrics is in search of a qualified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to enhance our Pediatric Critical Care services in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As an Advanced Practice Provider (APP), you will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, contributing to program management, patient care, safety, research, quality enhancement, and education.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and manage the treatment of children facing acute and chronic health challenges within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
- Order and interpret clinical tests, documenting results accurately and communicating findings to the physician team.
- Prescribe medications and recommend therapeutic interventions as necessary.
- Work collaboratively with physicians to evaluate and address the healthcare needs of critically ill or injured children.
- Utilize your extensive experience and judgment to achieve clinical objectives, exercising creativity and autonomy in your practice.
Education and Training:
Provide formal and informal instruction to nursing staff, medical students, residents, parents, and other healthcare professionals.
Quality Improvement and Research:
Engage in research initiatives and quality improvement projects to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
- Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing
- Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies
Minimum Requirements:
- Advanced Practice Nurse: Wisconsin RN License, Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License, Acute Care Pediatrics certification, Current BLS & PALS
- Physician Assistant: Wisconsin Physician Assistant License, Certification by NCCPA, Current BLS & PALS
Preferred Experience:
- Two years of experience in direct patient care for children, with strong communication skills.
- Prior experience in critical care nursing or as a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant in acute/chronic care.
- Familiarity with advanced pediatric critical care concepts and practices.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly.
