Pharmacy Technician Trainee

Job Description:
The Pharmacy Technician Trainee assists pharmacists in executing appropriate, safe, efficacious, efficient, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care. This role participates in various procedural aspects of pharmacy practice under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and is an integral part of the pharmacy team.
Caregivers in this position receive paid on-the-job training and are expected to practice in compliance with pharmacy technician trainee licensure. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee will be enrolled in an approved program and complete coursework to become a licensed pharmacy technician.
Upon completion of the program, the trainee is required to submit for licensure. It is expected that any trainee will complete coursework within one year of starting the program. Technician trainees will be paid for practical experience. Didactic coursework will be completed by the technician trainee outside of working hours and is not compensated. Trainees may be required to work weekends, nights, and holidays.
The Pharmacy Technician Trainee prepares medication orders, receives prescriptions, completes required paperwork, assists with billing, stocks medication, and delivers medication to patients. This role supports patients, pharmacists, pharmacy students, pharmacy technicians, and other healthcare professionals in relevant areas of responsibility.
The Pharmacy Technician Trainee understands and complies with state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to their specific area of practice and participates and supports financial responsibilities of the department, facility, and Intermountain Healthcare.
This role is responsible for providing delivery of medications, information, and services in a professional, timely manner and seeking a team approach to developing and achieving best practices and processes.
The Pharmacy Technician Trainee consistently attains appropriate supervision and accuracy checks by the pharmacist(s) and clearly understands when a pharmacist is required to verify tasks and activities to deliver detail-oriented, consistent, and flexible care.
This position is utilized for completion of the 180 – 220 hours required for the completion of a Pharmacy Technician program and state licensure through the Division of Professional Licensing for the State of Utah. This role will compensate the Technician-in-Training during the completion of these training hours.
At the completion of the required hours, the Technician-in-Training will need to apply for an open position within the department, if available. This position will only guarantee the 180 – 220 hour required by the Pharmacy Technician Program.

Key Responsibilities:

Requirements:
- Enroll or be enrolled in an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
- Apply for Pharmacy Technician Trainee License within 4 weeks of hire date and obtain within 8 weeks of hire.
- Demonstrated basic computer skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Customer service experience.
