This role enhances the capabilities of an Ophthalmic Technician III, requiring specialized expertise and flexibility to effectively cater to patients in various environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Setup and calibration of examination apparatus.
  • Collect and document patient medical histories.
  • Evaluate visual acuity and perform refraction for corrective lenses.
  • Conduct advanced imaging techniques, including fundus photography and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT).
  • Collaborate with ophthalmologists to prepare and communicate detailed reports to patients and their healthcare providers.

Community Engagement:

This role is vital in enhancing access to eye care for underserved communities. The Ophthalmic Services Specialist II will work closely with the Community Service Program Coordinator and will require extensive travel to support community service missions.

Work Schedule:

This position entails a commitment of 40 hours per week, with flexibility for evening and weekend engagements. Approximately 90% of the role involves travel to various community service locations.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficient in pupillary assessments and visual acuity evaluations.
  • Experience with diagnostic imaging and ocular assessments.
  • Ability to perform lensometry, keratometry, and refractometry.
  • Knowledge of ocular motility and tonometry techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining patient flow and inventory management.

Additional Duties:

  • Assist in clinical procedures and maintain a sterile environment.
  • Participate in training new staff and contribute to professional development initiatives.
  • Support the operational efficiency of community service missions.

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of one year of ophthalmic experience and COA certification, or five years of overall ophthalmic experience. Relevant certifications, including Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), are also necessary.
