Job Summary

Louisiana Behavioral Health, a partnership between Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport and Oceans Healthcare, is seeking a skilled Mental Health Technician to support our nursing staff in maintaining a therapeutic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine tasks and patient care activities under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel.
  • Adhere to professional standards, policies, and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Effectively apply supportive behavior when assisting in the control of patients who exhibit unacceptable behavior.
  • Inventory patient belongings accurately and secure contraband as needed.
  • Implement patient care activities, including vital signs, weights, ADL, intake and output documentation, and nutritional monitoring.
  • Assist patients with laundry, meals, bathroom functions, and maintaining of belongings.
  • Communicate and document patient observations and findings effectively in the patient record.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent with CNA certification or at least 6 months of prior bedside, direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Must be able to read, write, and follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must work well with diverse populations and utilize Age, Disability, and Cultural Specific knowledge in working with specialized populations.
  • Must be in good physical and mental health, with a warm empathetic attitude, respect for dignity, worth, and potentiality of clients, and hold a high sense of personal integrity.
Working Conditions

This position requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
