Job Summary:
The History Department at Wake Forest University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in African-American history. We welcome applicants who value and pursue rigor and innovation in research and who demonstrate a commitment to high-quality teaching that facilitates learning and engagement across the broad range of students Wake Forest University attracts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach introductory-level survey courses, including a two-semester survey of African-American history from the colonial period to the present.
- Develop and teach upper-level history courses in the candidate's area of specialization that complements department strengths and course offerings.
- Conduct research and publish scholarly work in the field of African-American history.
- Participate in departmental service and contribute to the development of the History Department's curriculum and programs.
Requirements:
- PhD in History or a related field by July 1, 2025.
- Strong research and teaching record in African-American history.
- Ability to teach a range of courses, including introductory-level survey courses and upper-level courses in the candidate's area of specialization.
- Commitment to high-quality teaching and research that facilitates learning and engagement across the broad range of students Wake Forest University attracts.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong research and publication record in African-American history.
- Ability to contribute to the development of the History Department's curriculum and programs.
