Job Summary

The QUIKRETE Companies is seeking a Senior Buyer to join our team. As a key member of our procurement team, you will be responsible for executing procurement strategies, negotiating contracts, evaluating suppliers, and ensuring timely delivery of goods while maintaining cost efficiency.

This is an in-office position, and you will be expected to report to the office 5 days a week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Select and evaluate vendors, requesting written bids or telephone quotes on purchases within delegated authority.
  • Review and analyze bids, recording bid information, including vendor price, payment terms, and delivery.
  • Respond to and process system triggers for material and requests from plants for material or information, managing internal customer expectations for production and delivery of finished products and coordinating with Quikrete Logistics.
  • Issue Purchase Orders for raw materials within assigned commodities.
  • Monitor and manage on-hand inventory of stock at supplier, subcontractor, and plant locations, assisting with periodic physical inventories.
  • Collaborate with the Quikrete Quality Assurance Manager to monitor vendor quality performance, ensuring internal customer satisfaction and initiating corrective action as necessary using appropriate internal systems.
  • Assist with accounting and purchasing functions, including receiving products, virtually transferring inventory, reviewing invoices, and providing Proof of Delivery documents from vendors.
  • Meet with vendors to receive product and service information, perform value analysis, analyze quality, price, source of supply, delivery date, shipping charges, and product cost.
  • Resolve vendor-user conflicts, obtain and issue emergency purchase authorizations.
  • Ensure the use of proper record-keeping methods and procedures.
  • Interpret departmental policies, AASHTO and ASTM specifications, and other regulations governing purchasing activities and the awarding of contracts.
  • Monitor data integrity, including the ERP system, incoming EDI data, and Access databases, and assist with resolution.
  • Coordinate the addition of new items and new item/plant combinations to the ERP system with Cost Accounting, ensuring correct descriptions are loaded.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field preferred.
  • Combination of post-secondary education and experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of five years of responsible experience in quantity buying for a large organization.
  • Experience in performing detailed review of purchasing invoices, purchase orders, and requisitions to ensure conformance with policies and procedures, preparing and evaluating specifications for products and services, and applying value analysis criteria to products and materials.
  • Knowledge of purchasing theory and practices, including ethics, standards, bid preparation and evaluation, competitive bidding procedures, quality control, data collection techniques, office procedures, and the use of office automation to assist in the purchasing function.
  • Ability to conduct studies, evaluate data, and make recommendations and decisions, prepare and present written or oral reports, act as Purchasing Agent as assigned, perform arithmetic calculations, use common units of measure, calculate interest, discounts, and shipping charges, provide staff training in the use of computer applications for purchasing, recognize responsibility and limits of assigned authority, and maintain an effective liaison with vendors, management personnel, and co-workers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time.
  • Proficient in J.D. Edwards.
  • APICS CPIM or CSCP Certification.
