Civil Engineering Student Opportunity at Clark Nexsen

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Civil Engineering Student to join our team in Virginia Beach, VA for the summer of 2025. As a Civil Engineering Student, you will have the opportunity to work on various projects and tasks within the department, including special project assignments and active involvement in project design and documentation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform various aspects of discipline design, including conceptual studies, program requirements, design analyses, calculations, systems selection, and layout for building design.
  • Prepare programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents as directed.
  • Prepare marketing and presentation materials as directed.
  • Perform various services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings as directed.
  • Comply with quality control policies and procedures.
  • Learn and implement department and company standards.
  • Develop analysis and design skills.
  • Participate in team meetings and coordinate efforts with other team members.
  • Work with, respond to, and take direction from Project Managers, Design Managers, Senior Architects, Senior Engineers, Architects, or Engineers.
Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student in an ABET-accredited program in one of the following disciplines: Civil Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Civil Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering, or Civil Engineering Technology.
  • Have completed at least the second year of study.
  • Be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, and information management.
  • Have working familiarity with design and production software to a point of being able to utilize the software in the development of project documents and interact with other project team members in their use of the software.
  • One previous architectural or engineering internship or have relevant work experience is preferred.

We are asking everyone to be present on Mondays and Thursdays, with a required third day that will provide additional flexibility and be set between you and your supervisor (with consideration given to your project team members and clients).
