Location Requirement:

Must reside within a 20-mile radius of Greenville, SC.

Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM with a 30-minute lunch break. One week each month, the schedule will shift to 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch.

Role Overview:

The Field Equipment Technician (FET) is tasked with the upkeep and repair of light construction machinery (such as skid steers, chippers, trenchers, mini-excavators, etc.) at various locations. The FET conducts regular visits to assess equipment, document conditions, perform necessary preventive maintenance, and complete service orders for repairs. This role reports to the regional management team.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Communication (10%): Educate store personnel and customers on the correct usage of equipment and safety protocols. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
  • Compliance (40%): Maintain certifications for Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP). Keep an accurate inventory of parts in the vehicle or shop. Ensure fleet compliance with company and federal standards. Deploy new equipment to locations, including conducting Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs), delivering to sites, and training staff on equipment operation.
  • Maintenance (50%): Oversee the maintenance of rental equipment at designated locations, focusing on preventive care. Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on all units at each site. Perform minor repairs and respond to service requests, ordering necessary parts for maintenance and repairs. Utilize company technology to document all work performed, including labor and parts used. Assist with equipment deliveries and pickups as needed. Undertake additional tasks as assigned by management.
Reporting Structure:
  • This position typically reports to the Regional Field Operations Manager.
  • This position has no direct reports.
Travel Expectations:
  • Overnight travel is generally less than 10% of the time.
Physical Demands:
  • This role requires intermittent physical exertion, including walking, standing, stooping, climbing, and lifting heavy or awkward materials.
Work Environment:
  • Generally in a comfortable setting, but may encounter moderate physical discomfort due to dust, fumes, or odors.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least eighteen years old.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must meet Department of Transportation medical certification standards. The role involves significant physical demands, including lifting, prolonged standing, and working at heights.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts with customers and colleagues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • At least one year of experience in servicing construction equipment, including preventive maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Knowledge of light construction equipment maintenance, including small engines and hydraulics.
  • Ability to interpret technical repair and parts manuals.
  • Experience in providing excellent customer service.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems.
  • Proficiency with handheld technology (smartphones, laptops, tablets).
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to various working conditions.
  • Strong work ethic.
