About the Role

The Financial Analyst, R&D Finance will play a critical role in supporting the R&D Financial Planning & Analysis team at Illumina's corporate headquarters in San Diego, California. This position will be responsible for providing financial modeling, analytics, and general financial support to the R&D organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain financial models and forecasts to support budget planning and decision-making.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to stakeholders, including leadership and business partners.
  • Lead the budget planning and forecasting process to minimize forecast exposure and enhance operational expense opportunities.
  • Analyze economic factors to support commercial decisions and investment opportunities, ensuring appropriate financial and business risks have been evaluated.
  • Monitor data exchange activity with third-party software hosts and troubleshoot errors.
  • Support the monthly and quarterly close process, including operating expense management, general ledger reviews, and forecasting.
  • Interact with leadership to review actual results and variances to budgets and forecasts.
  • Support R&D Business Partners in preparation for financial reviews.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and outliers to assist management with decision-making.
  • Help drive the greater R&D annual operating expense and budget planning process.
  • Extract and compile data from enterprise systems, including SAP and Cognos, to be distributed to a wide audience.
  • Submit recommendations for process improvements and streamlining opportunities.
Requirements
  • 2-4 years of total finance experience, preferably in a high-growth environment.
  • Fluent knowledge of the main elements and drivers of the income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flow.
  • Proven ability to evaluate and solve complex problems and understand the strategic implications of different business approaches.
  • Multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional interpersonal soft skills, able to establish strong rapport and partnerships at all levels of the organization.
  • Superb written communication and project management skills.
  • Commitment to accuracy and quality while meeting multiple goals or deadlines.
  • Self-directed and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Exhibits clear leadership potential.
Education
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.
