Overview
As a vital member of the patient care delivery team, this role involves taking on key responsibilities for both technical and multi-faceted direct and indirect patient care tasks, in accordance with established policies and procedures. This position requires substantial interaction with clinical and administrative staff, physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, patients, and their families, necessitating exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills to foster a compassionate and healing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Responsibilities:
- Accurately records the reason for patient visits and vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, pulse oximetry, height, and weight.
- Prepares patients for consultations and procedures, ensuring they are appropriately attired.
- Assists healthcare providers during examinations and can act as a chaperone for sensitive examinations.
- Conducts Point-of-Care (POC) testing, including blood glucose and hemoccult tests, while maintaining quality control and documentation.
- Collects specimens as instructed, utilizing the correct equipment for handling and processing.
- Performs EKGs and communicates findings to healthcare providers.
- Inputs POC lab results into patient records.
- Aids in the safe transportation of patients as needed.
- Ensures that all patient care areas are stocked with necessary supplies and alerts supervisors when inventory levels are low.
- Adheres to HIPAA regulations to maintain patient safety and confidentiality.
- Maintains a visible presence in clinical areas to assist as needed.
- Delivers exceptional service to all customers, promotes teamwork, and practices fiscal responsibility.
- Administrative Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the clinical care team to manage messages, excluding abnormal results, prescription renewals, and clinical advice.
- Coordinates appointment scheduling and urgent referrals.
- Assists in the completion of patient documentation.
- Monitors and aids in processing clinical paperwork, forms, and faxes.
- Answers various phone lines related to patient care.
General Expectations:
- Demonstrates an understanding of growth and development principles relevant to the assigned patient demographic.
- Commits to the safety of patients, visitors, and staff by adhering to safety regulations.
- Upholds established policies, procedures, quality assessments, and infection control standards.
- Maintains cleanliness in work areas as required.
- Provides exceptional service to all customers, fosters teamwork, and engages in innovative practices for improvement.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Supports WellSpan Health's compliance and privacy programs to uphold the organization's values and standards.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent standing and walking.
- Occasional sitting, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- Frequent talking and hearing.
- Occasional repetitive motions and coordination tasks.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to occupational hazards and bloodborne pathogens.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Work Experience: Less than 1 year of relevant experience required.
- Licenses: Basic Life Support and Certified Nurse Aide preferred upon hire.
