Job Summary

NYC Health + Hospitals is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Dietitian to join our team at Woodhull Medical Center. As a key member of our Bariatric Program, you will play a critical role in providing comprehensive nutrition services to patients seeking weight loss surgery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough nutrition assessments for patients seeking bariatric surgery, including gathering medical history, laboratory data, medications, and meal patterns.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, taking into account cultural and religious food preferences, language barriers, physical disabilities, and age group.
  • Counsel and monitor patient progress, providing education and support to achieve established goals and expected outcomes.
  • Accurately document results of nutritional assessments and patient counseling in the EPIC medical record, adhering to Department Policies, Joint Commission, and CMS guidelines.
  • Facilitate group nutrition education classes, utilizing approved materials and/or curriculum.
  • Collaborate with the Bariatric team to identify needs and implement solutions, integrating Evidence-Based Practice into clinic improvements.
  • Coordinate patient meetings, appointments, pre-screenings, surgical dates, and other tasks necessary to move the surgical process forward.
  • Provide education and training to center and hospital staff, students, and other hospitals and community organizations, as requested.
  • Support Departmental interdisciplinary performance improvement goals for the Bariatric Surgery Clinic.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and maintain records to support insurance billing/reimbursement processes.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in Dietetics or Foods and Nutrition, or equivalent experience.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian or New York State Certification as a Dietitian-Nutritionist.
  • Special Note: Newly-hired Dietitians assigned to Post-Acute Care (Long-Term Care) facilities are required to have New York State Certification as a Dietitian-Nutritionist at the time of hire.
