Job Description

The Respiratory Care Specialist provides comprehensive care under medical direction or clinical protocols for patients with cardiopulmonary, neurological, or other organ system dysfunctions. The role involves working across various departments, including Inpatient and Emergency Room (ER), Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Diagnostics, and Neurodiagnostics (EEG and NCV).

Patient Assessment and Care:

  • Patient assessment and care are critical components of this role. Assessing patients, collecting clinical data, performing diagnostic tests, applying therapeutic interventions, and collaborating with the healthcare team to establish and achieve therapeutic goals.
  • This specialist works closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that address the unique needs of each patient.

Pulmonary Diagnostics:

  • This role requires operating pulmonary function testing equipment, performing arterial blood gas analysis, and preparing reports for physician interpretation.
  • In addition to these responsibilities, the Respiratory Care Specialist also conducts routine and complex EEG and NCV procedures to diagnose nervous system disorders.

Education Requirements:

  • A graduate of an approved Respiratory Care Practitioner program is required.
  • An Associate's degree is mandatory; a Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • An active license from the Maryland Board of Physicians (MPBQA) is necessary.
  • A Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) is also required.

Experience:

  • Experience is necessary for PRN and Part-time positions.
