About the Role:

Vaya Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geriatric Mental Health Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Geriatric and Adult Mental Health Specialty Team, you will play a critical role in providing training, consultation, and technical assistance to community organizations and staff of nursing homes, adult care homes, and family care homes serving adults with mental illness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach evidence-informed presentations about mental illnesses and how to manage difficult behaviors to community agencies.
  • Provide education and linkage to services for caregivers of older adults who are providing care in the community.
  • Train staff and volunteers on topics relevant to older adult mental health, including recognizing symptoms of mental illness, behavioral intervention, and communication issues.
  • Provide case consultation regarding behaviors that may result in the need for more intensive services, including hospitalization, and facilitate access to those services.
  • Assist staff in assessing behaviors and provide input and support in the development of intervention plans.
  • Model for staff and provide technical assistance with the implementation of intervention plans.
  • Assist staff or caregivers with linkage to community providers and resources serving the geriatric population to promote aging in place and improve health.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members on clinical issues, including diagnostic criteria and evidence-based treatment options for individuals with serious and persistent mental illnesses.
  • Participate in community workgroups to enhance the community's ability to provide service and care for older adults.
  • Document required elements on MHDDSAS reports, in Vaya's electronic health record, and other internal processes.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a field related to health, psychology, sociology, social work, or another relevant human services area.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with the population served, including one year serving older adults with mental health and/or substance use disorders.
  • Active, unrestricted North Carolina licensure in behavioral health (LCMHC, LCSW, LMFT, LPA, LCAS).

Physical Requirements:

  • Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparation and analysis of documents, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
  • Physical activity includes crouching, reaching, walking, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers.
  • Sedentary work with lifting requirements up to 10 pounds, sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Mental concentration is required in all aspects of work.

Salary: Depending on qualifications and experience of candidate. This position is exempt and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
