Position Summary:
The High Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) at SARA is seeking a highly skilled and visionary Aerospace EMP (ASEMP) Section Head (Engineer/Physicist). This role involves leading EMP hardening and assessment initiatives, while facilitating the transition of groundbreaking technologies to the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Energy (DoE), and associated contractors. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to mentor and guide a team of talented engineers, physicists, and technicians across both established and emerging programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and conduct EMP assessments related to Aircraft, Missiles, and other Aerospace applications, including travel to various facilities.
- Lead design efforts for Aircraft Hardening.
- Manage timecards and PTO requests for team members.
- Coordinate tasks among ASEMP Section personnel as needed.
- Provide performance evaluations for section members and report findings to department leadership.
- Foster team morale and camaraderie through team-building events.
- Strategically develop the skillsets of section personnel to meet current and future project demands.
- Recruit and onboard new talent as necessary.
- Engage in research, design, development, testing, and documentation of multidisciplinary engineering tasks across various projects.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and maintain thorough project documentation.
- Conduct hands-on testing utilizing standard and advanced testing equipment.
- Collaborate with customers, technical leads, program managers, and department heads to fulfill project requirements.
- Travel may be required, up to 30% annually.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience with a BS or MS in Applied Electromagnetics, Aerospace Engineering, or Pulsed Power.
- At least 3 years of experience in team leadership, demonstrating effective communication, delegation, and strategic problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in programming.
- Proven track record of organizing and executing moderately-sized programs while meeting cost, schedule, and customer expectations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Moderate physical activity is involved, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Work environment is typically indoor, with moderate physical hazards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience with a BS or MS in relevant fields.
- 5+ years of leadership experience with a focus on empathetic communication and team motivation.
- Possession of an Active Top Secret Security Clearance is preferred.
