Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Planner to join our Planning and Zoning Division at the City of Hartford, CT. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in shaping the city's future through comprehensive planning, policy development, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement administrative policies, procedures, and practices to achieve division goals and objectives.
  • Manage a team of planners, zoning enforcement officers, and other staff to achieve division goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement long-range comprehensive master plans, mid-range planning elements, land use planning, and special projects.
  • Establish clear timelines to meet statutory deadlines and other legal requirements.
  • Participate in and attend public events, meetings, and communicate with planning customers.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college with major coursework in Urban Planning, Public or Business Administration, Architecture, Political Science, Law, or a closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of administrative and supervisory experience in a complex organization with a focus on urban development and city planning.
  • Master's degree in the areas of assignments mentioned above is preferred.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification desired or must be obtained within the first year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in urban planning, policy development, and community engagement.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, policies, procedures, and regulations governing urban renewal, zoning, and city planning.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct a multi-faceted planning division and staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
