Position Overview:
The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) is tasked with evaluating selected patients within the assigned department.

The ANP conducts comprehensive physical assessments, engages with patients both in-person and through telecommunication, collaborates with departmental colleagues to ensure a seamless patient care experience in alignment with established quality standards, and contributes to the overall management of patient care.

The ANP reports directly to the Chief of the designated department and the Department Manager.

Key Responsibilities:


Operates under the established protocols for the ANP role, adhering to Kaiser Permanente policies and the regulations set forth by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Conducts age-appropriate evaluations of patients, including thorough history taking and physical examinations in accordance with departmental guidelines.

Engages in systematic assessment/data collection, focusing on physiological, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive aspects; emphasizes patient/family education, family engagement, and patient advocacy.

Consults with supervising physicians or other healthcare professionals as required by patient needs and assessment outcomes.

Collaborates with physicians and other clinicians within the department to ensure effective patient care that meets quality benchmarks for those treated in the designated service.

Reviews patient medical records for follow-up or to order diagnostic tests as per established protocols.

Maintains open communication with other healthcare providers and departments to promote operational efficiency and continuity of care.

Builds strong working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and their families, respecting staff rights and cultural and ethical beliefs.
Delegates tasks appropriately and coordinates the responsibilities of healthcare team members, assessing the effectiveness of care provided by team members.
Exhibits knowledge of and applies safety protocols as defined by the institution. Acts efficiently in emergency situations by following established procedures, remaining composed, notifying the appropriate personnel, and documenting occurrences.
Takes responsibility and accountability for personal professional practice. Actively participates in staff development initiatives for unit and departmental personnel.

Demonstrates understanding of legal considerations, including patient confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of patient care and unit operations.

Engages in unit and departmental Performance Improvement initiatives. Participates in nursing research activities as needed. Identifies and resolves issues effectively.
Exhibits a service-oriented approach in all interactions with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team. Shows proficiency in utilizing computer systems and communication technologies to document, track, and share information.
If functioning in a specialized role, meets the expectations set for that specific role.
Performs other related responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience

At least 6 months of experience as a nurse practitioner.


Two (2) years of experience (within the last three (3) years) as a nurse practitioner providing specialized care in an emergency department or urgent care environment.

Education

Master's Degree in Nursing (unless already a Kaiser Permanente employee who was grandfathered in prior to the California Business and Professions Code requirement on January 1, 2008)
Completion of a Master's Program in Family Practice Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner is required.

If only serving a specific patient demographic of adults or pediatrics, then an Acute Adult Nurse Practitioner or Acute Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certification is required.

Additional Requirements:
Must fulfill credentialing criteria established for nurse practitioners within the Kaiser system (Master's Degree in Nursing and National Certification from one of the following organizations: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; American Credentialing Center; National Certification Corporation for Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties; National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses.)
Candidates must meet the requirements to apply for PTAN (Provider Transaction Account Number) at the time of hire and apply within 30 days of hire.
