Sparks, Nevada, United States Tesla Full time
Position Overview

A Process Engineer will be tasked with the implementation, development, and enhancement of production methodologies within Tesla's manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Production Support: Directly support the production line by continuously optimizing manufacturing process metrics such as TAU and OEE across multiple high-volume manufacturing lines, which include dispense systems, assembly, laser welding, robotic stations, electrical testing, and vision systems.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with equipment and controls engineers, maintenance teams, and quality engineering to address challenges, enhance manufacturability, and execute equipment upgrades.
  • Cost and Yield Improvement: Sustain products by focusing on cost reduction and yield enhancement.
  • Data Analysis: Collaborate with quality and design teams to gather and assess data, determining appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications.
Process Development

Develop expertise in manufacturing processes and understand process capabilities through critical data analysis and a comprehensive understanding of the product. Responsibilities include:

  • Modifying line layouts, optimizing material flow, and ensuring proficiency in MES systems while utilizing Lean Manufacturing best practices.
  • Participating in the transition of products from concept to pilot line production and into mass manufacturing.
  • Analyzing and optimizing production processes to ensure safety while maximizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) in a cost-effective manner, striving for world-class quality levels.
Problem Solving

Diagnose issues encountered during the manufacturing process and drive corrective actions back to the source, leading to root cause identification and resolution. Utilize structured problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W), and Eight Disciplines (8D).

Data-Driven Decisions

Enable operational and financial decisions through predictive insights into tool and process performance, integrating factory data systems and employing software tools such as MySQL, JMP, Minitab, Tableau, and Ignition. A working knowledge of at least one programming language, such as Python, Jython, R, or SQL, is essential.

Process Monitoring

Monitor and audit manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with product specifications and standards. Participate in the development and maintenance of FMEAs and Control Plans, analyze, develop, process, and implement Engineering Change Orders, and create and maintain Manufacturing Instructions and routings.

Training and Development

Develop and train sustaining technicians and assist in the training of operators as necessary. Manage activities for process sustaining technicians to ensure day-to-day coverage of the production line, including the development and documentation of appropriate rework procedures.

Requirements

Applicants should possess a BS Degree in process/chemical engineering, manufacturing/industrial engineering, computer/electrical engineering, mathematics, physical science (STEM), or a related field. Experience in developing and improving processes is required, along with a proven track record of Overall Equipment Effectiveness improvement activities.

Data collection and analysis experience is essential, as is the ability to develop data-driven root cause analyses and solutions. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in statistical analysis for decision-making, including DOE, linear regressions, hypothesis testing, and capability studies.

Strong problem-solving skills and a quick aptitude for learning systems are necessary. Familiarity with structured problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W), or Eight Disciplines (8D) is preferred.

A passion for creating exceptional new products and leveraging testing to enable an engineering organization to achieve outstanding quality, reliability, and excellence is essential.

Compensation and Benefits

As a full-time Tesla employee, you will be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, 401(k) with employer match, employee stock purchase plans, and various other financial benefits.
