Position Summary

The Nursing Assistant (NA) provides essential caregiving to residents during scheduled shifts in long-term care settings. This role involves delivering resident-centered nursing care and assisting with daily living activities under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA is knowledgeable about and delivers age-appropriate care that addresses both the physical and psychological needs of residents according to their care plans. As a vital member of the nursing team, the NA is responsible for adhering to infection prevention protocols and utilizing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.

Responsibilities include assisting residents with basic health care needs, which may encompass bathing, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support. The NA aids residents in transferring, repositioning, and ambulating using appropriate techniques and equipment, and may also assist with range of motion exercises.

Additional duties involve supporting residents during meal times, ensuring a positive dining experience, and documenting interactions and care outcomes. The NA communicates any changes in residents' conditions to the charge nurse and assists with wellness and recreational programs, encouraging resident participation.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not mandatory.

Candidates must be at least 16 years old. Previous experience in long-term care is advantageous.

Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) is required, with training provided by the facility.

Ongoing education and competency testing are mandatory, with a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education required annually.

Depending on facility requirements, this position may necessitate a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
