As the foremost provider of domestic violence services in Central Florida, Harbor House is devoted to empowering individuals and breaking the cycle of abuse. We offer comprehensive services, including emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and community education, ensuring that every family member, especially children, receives the necessary support to heal and flourish.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are in search of a committed Child & Teen Advocate to enhance our team. In this capacity, you will deliver essential support to children and adolescents who have faced domestic violence. Your responsibilities will include facilitating support groups, conducting service intakes, and providing crisis intervention and referrals. Collaborating closely with our Case Managers and community partners, you will play a crucial role in fostering a safe and nurturing environment for young survivors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Advocacy & Support: Deliver direct advocacy and support to children and teens affected by domestic violence, assisting them in navigating their experiences and accessing necessary services.
  • Group Facilitation: Organize and lead age-appropriate support groups for children and teens, creating a secure space for them to express their emotions and learn coping mechanisms.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate crisis intervention for children, teens, and their families, linking them with suitable resources and referrals.
  • Collaboration: Partner with Harbor House Case Managers and other advocacy programs to ensure comprehensive support for young survivors.
  • Prevention Initiatives: Participate in community outreach and educational efforts to help prevent domestic violence by raising awareness and promoting healthy relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required; an Associate's Degree or higher is preferred. A current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is also preferred. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in child care or a related field is required. Experience working with children in crisis situations is highly valued.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of child development principles.
    • Basic counseling skills with the ability to effectively engage with children of all ages.
    • Ability to plan, organize, and implement educational activities.
    • Basic computer proficiency is required.
    • A valid Florida Driver's License and eligibility under agency insurance are mandatory.
    • Completion of CORE Competency training within 30 days of hire is required.
