Job Title: Environmental Health Specialist III

Join the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health as an Environmental Health Specialist III. In this role, you will perform specialized environmental health inspections and investigations of complex environmental health problems. You will also develop and conduct specialized studies, trainings, investigations, and make recommendations as to findings. Additionally, you will compile information, evaluate present procedures, and draft proposed ordinances, division policies, regulations, and guidelines in the area of specialization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct periodic specialized technical field inspections and investigations of manufacturing, industrial, or other large-scale facilities and institutions.
  • Verify the proper manufacture, storage, preparation, and transportation of foods, drugs, and dairy products.
  • Investigate suspected food poisonings and other complaints.
  • Inspect facilities such as hotels, motels, jails, mental institutions, multiple family dwelling housing, and boarding homes for compliance with established environmental standards.
  • Approve plans for the construction of public swimming facilities and the installation and maintenance of facility equipment.
  • Ensure that potable water meets Federal, State, local, physical, chemical, and bacteriological standards.
  • Approve sewage disposal installations and inspect water treatment, sewage disposal, and water reclamation plants.
  • Conduct specialized testing procedures to ensure that no potentially dangerous connections exist between industrial equipment, industrial processing water, and plumbing fixtures.

Requirements:

  • Two years' experience as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist for a health department.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • A certificate as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist issued by the California State Department of Public Health.

Working Conditions:
