Job Overview:

The Automation Systems Engineer plays a pivotal role in the design and upkeep of software utilized in the manufacturing workflows for Hitachi Energy products. A significant aspect of this role involves providing support for the PLC control systems that govern the electromechanical machinery integral to the production process. Collaboration with the engineering team is essential to create the software and databases that enhance the efficiency of lightning arrester production, while also working closely with the production team to ensure seamless software functionality and user support. This position reports directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and interacts with Product Engineering and Production, along with various support functions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver support for production and maintenance through troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of software and control system issues.
  • Collaborate with product engineering to develop and sustain software for module optimization, block selection, and data capture for production processes and testing, utilizing Visual Studio. Transition legacy applications from Visual Basic .Net to C# .Net.
  • Establish and maintain SQL databases to effectively store and provide data for the aforementioned applications.
  • Assist in the support of electrical and electronic hardware systems for machine control.
  • Engage in PLC programming and HMI application support.
  • Develop functional requirements and integrate motion control systems.
  • Conduct start-up services and provide technical support for new equipment.
  • Offer technical guidance and oversight to staff to ensure that technical standards are met.
Qualifications:
  • AS or BS degree in Electronic Engineering Technology, Electrical Mechanical Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience in software development.
  • Proficiency in C# software development within Visual Studio.
  • Experience in PLC programming and HMI development, preferably with Beckhoff and Rockwell RS Logix.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard network communication protocols, including Ethercat, TwinSAFE, Devicenet, and Ethernet/IP.
  • General understanding of computer networking architecture and hardware, machine guarding, and relevant electrical standards (IEC, UL, National Electrical Code).
  • Competence in MS Office Applications.
