Position Summary:

The Fleet Maintenance Technician is responsible for conducting preventative maintenance, specialized inspections, and general repairs on tractor and trailer units, ensuring compliance with DOT, federal, and state regulations, as well as company standards.

This role involves assessing the overall mechanical condition of vehicles, diagnosing malfunctions, and initiating necessary repairs. Technicians will replace worn or damaged components with new or reconditioned parts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Correcting vehicle deficiencies through comprehensive repairs, adjustments, and replacements of major assemblies and systems, including brakes, electrical systems, air conditioning, and hydraulics.
  • Utilizing welding equipment for repairs as required.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all maintenance and labor performed using maintenance management software.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers.
  • Conduct annual/systematic inspections on equipment as mandated.
  • Ensure all equipment adheres to Federal FHWA standards.
  • Operate yard hostler trucks for moving trailers within the facility.
  • Order and manage parts and supplies as necessary.
  • Follow established safety and environmental policies, including proper handling of hazardous waste.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment to promote safety and equipment longevity.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the repair and service of trailers and medium-duty trucks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle and equipment theory, including diesel engines, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Familiarity with tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT regulations, and company policies.
  • Proficiency in using vehicle diagnostic software.
  • DOT HM-183 certification and experience.
  • ASE Certification is preferred but not mandatory.

Education:

A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D) is required.
