AACOM's Vision for Excellence
The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Vice President for Undergraduate Medical Education Services. In this pivotal role, you will oversee student-oriented programs that guide students from application to graduation, ensuring a seamless and supportive education experience.
About the Role
As a key member of AACOM's executive leadership team, you will champion student affairs, oversee AACOMAS, develop national recruitment strategies, innovate admissions practices, and collaborate for student success. Your expertise in recruitment and admissions, combined with your ability to leverage technology and foster diversity and inclusion, will drive student success and support AACOM's strategic vision.
Responsibilities
- Champion Student Affairs: Lead and organize comprehensive programs that support students from application through graduation, acting as a key advocate for their needs and ensuring they have the resources to succeed throughout medical school.
- Oversee AACOMAS: Manage AACOM's Centralized Application Service (AACOMAS), ensuring its smooth operation, system updates, and overall service quality. You'll be responsible for policies, procedures, and leading the annual system launch.
- Develop National Recruitment Strategies: Design, implement, and evaluate a national recruitment plan in partnership with the recruitment team and COMAO (Council of Osteopathic Medical Admissions Officers), ensuring alignment with AACOM's strategic vision and the needs of osteopathic medical schools.
- Innovate Admissions Practices: Leverage cutting-edge technology, including artificial intelligence, to enhance recruitment and admissions processes. You'll ensure a seamless and effective experience for applicants and stakeholders.
- Collaborate for Student Success: Work closely with the Vice President for Graduate Medical Education Services to support students as they transition from undergraduate medical education to successful residency matches.
- Promote Diversity & Inclusion: Lead initiatives to reach and support historically underrepresented minority groups, helping to increase diversity in medical school admissions and ensure inclusive student services.
- Engage Stakeholders: Build and maintain strong relationships with medical school admissions officers, act as AACOM's representative in national forums like the National Association of Advisors for Health Professions (NAAHP), and ensure high-quality service for applicants, advisors, and colleges.
- Contribute to Strategic Leadership: Join AACOM's executive leadership team and work closely with senior leaders to drive organizational strategies that enhance student services and support student success across all UME activities.
Requirements
- Educational Background: You have a master's degree or advanced degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Marketing, Business, or a related field. Your academic foundation equips you to lead complex student affairs and admissions initiatives.
- Proven Leadership Experience: With 7-10 years of mid- to senior-level management experience, you've successfully led teams, managed budgets, and overseen strategic programs in higher education. Experience in medical education, especially osteopathic, is a major plus.
- Expert in Recruitment & Admissions: You bring extensive knowledge in higher education recruitment and admissions, ideally within medical education, and have a track record of developing and evaluating successful programs.
- Tech-Savvy Innovator: You're comfortable leveraging digital tools and artificial intelligence to optimize recruitment and admissions processes. You're always thinking ahead about how technology can improve the student and applicant experience.
- Diversity Advocate: You have experience working with outreach programs that support historically underrepresented minority groups and other diverse populations. Your commitment to diversity and inclusion drives your approach to student success.
- Skilled Networker & Relationship Builder: You're a natural at building coalitions and nurturing relationships. Whether working with admissions officers, applicants, or national associations, you know how to engage stakeholders effectively.
- Financial Acumen: You have experience managing budgets and are comfortable working with financial projections and fee structures. Your ability to align financial planning with strategic goals sets you apart.
