Position Overview

ROLE SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, this role involves assigning, planning, implementing, and evaluating care across multiple units. The Nursing Supervisor serves as a mentor, directing and instructing nursing staff in all clinical functions across various locations. Responsibilities include scheduling, guiding, and overseeing both professional and support nursing personnel in their duties.

Key Responsibilities:

Nursing Process

• Oversee and assess nursing care through systematic evaluation, planning, intervention, and reassessment, utilizing documentation, observation, and established standards.

• Analyze trends related to nursing care delivery within clinical services and propose necessary innovations or modifications.

• Monitor patient conditions and initiate appropriate nursing interventions, including direct patient care.

• Collaborate with the Director of Nursing to coordinate and guide the execution of new initiatives aimed at enhancing care delivery.

• Support nursing staff in organizing patient care and ensuring seamless continuity based on clinical needs.

• Participate in team activities to meet Patient Centered Medical Home Standards.

• Identify care gaps and collaborate with the team to address them through proactive outreach and education.

• Engage in care coordination activities through Accountable Care Organizations (ACO) and contribute to the development of healthcare delivery initiatives.

• Maintain clinical expertise and serve as a resource for nursing staff across all sites.

• Assist in the assessment of patient and family needs to inform care planning.

• Reinforce quality assurance standards and engage in activities to enhance nursing practice.

• Conduct orientation programs for new nursing staff and supervise their clinical experiences.

• Identify service needs through observation and evaluation.

• Address staff needs and resolve issues effectively.

Leadership and Management

• Provide supervision across assigned units.

• Act as a resource for unit staff and manage multiple units as designated.

• Offer leadership and direction aligned with departmental goals.

• Foster open communication within the unit and across departments.

• Make informed decisions based on objective data.

• Anticipate potential challenges and intervene proactively.

• Collaborate with administrative teams to ensure resource availability.

• Develop staffing plans to meet patient care needs and manage scheduling.

• Consult with superiors on critical situations requiring attention.

• Review and approve payroll for assigned staff.

• Provide constructive feedback to promote positive behavior.

• Conduct performance evaluations in accordance with established policies.

• Create an environment conducive to staff education and development.

• Recognize and celebrate staff achievements.

Safety and Compliance

• Ensure the safety and comfort of patients and staff.

• Participate in patient safety huddles and collaborate with support services to maintain a secure environment.

• Uphold infection control policies and emergency procedures.

Professional Development

• Commit to personal continuing education and professional growth.

• Attend relevant meetings and workshops to enhance skills.

• Serve on professional committees and develop as a resource for nursing staff.

Personnel Responsibilities

• Adhere to facility policies and maintain professionalism.

• Provide direct patient care as needed across clinical areas.

• Complete annual training and comply with patient confidentiality policies.

• Perform additional duties as assigned by Nursing Administration.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Valid New York State RN license and current registration.
2. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.
3. Three years of experience as a registered nurse.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in nursing or related field.
• Experience in teaching, leadership, or supervisory roles.
• Two years of supervisory experience.
