Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Designer II to join our team at Powell Industries. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical systems for various projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical systems for projects, working closely with engineers and other team members to create detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Participate in project meetings, provide technical support, and ensure compliance with industry codes and standards.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior designers and drafters.
  • Create specific point-to-point wiring diagrams and back pan layouts for electrical switchgear, motor control, and power control rooms.
  • Design custom/semi-custom products to meet customer electrical specifications.
  • Produce print-to-point wiring diagrams from control schemes.
  • Check wiring diagrams.
  • Gain familiarity with electrical design and circuitry.
  • Gain familiarity with industry codes and standards.
  • Create basic design drawings with assistance.
  • Update drawings per engineering and/or customer markups with direction from engineering personnel and transmit drawings to shop and customer.
  • Complete "As Built" drawings in order to learn about drawing packages.
  • Attend in-house and outside training sessions.
  • Learn policies and procedures, work instruction, ISO policies, Safety Rules and Regulations, and vendor products.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Minimum 4-8 years of experience in an Engineering/Designing role.
Preferred Skills
  • Basic computer skills using Oracle, Word, Excel.
  • Ability to order material electronically.
  • Basic drafting/CAD skills.
  • Able to read and interpret electrical symbols, characters, and drawings.
  • Able to apply NEC, ANSI, and Other as it applies to the day-to-day activity.
Working Conditions

This position may require travel out-of-town to attend training and meetings. The typical office environment may experience minor discomfort from extensive use of a computer display and keyboard; travel between buildings on campus and between campuses.

Maintaining body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs. Sitting, standing and walking for long periods of time. Typing, punching or applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.
