Position OverviewThe Inpatient Pharmacy Services Manager offers managerial assistance to the Director of Pharmacy and other leaders within the Pharmacy Department by overseeing daily departmental operations and coordinating pharmacy workflows.
This role involves supervising and directing the daily functions of Pharmacy Staff, assigning tasks as needed in line with established policies and procedures, and ensuring departmental productivity.
The Manager is also tasked with fostering a patient and customer-oriented department to support the delivery of exceptional patient care.
Additionally, the Manager will play a key role in attracting and nurturing a team of dedicated staff through effective recruitment and interviewing of candidates who are passionate about patient and customer-centered care.
Key Responsibilities and DutiesOversees and manages pharmacy operations, including the formulation and implementation of institutional policies and practices at the departmental level, while ensuring the smooth operation and workflow of the inpatient pharmacy department.
Ensures compliance with pharmacy regulations and provides guidance to staff regarding regulatory agencies, including but not limited to The Joint Commission Medication Standards, National Patient Safety Goals, USP 797, and USP 800, while participating in quality assurance initiatives to uphold safe medication practices.
Collaborates with the pharmacy leadership team to develop policies and procedures, engage in strategic planning, and effectively meet operational objectives, quality care standards, and service product lines.
Directs operations in a cost-effective manner while achieving productivity and budgetary goals. (Assists with ongoing cost-containment strategies for medication usage and operations; provides additional management reports as required.)Evaluates, plans, develops, and implements standards and assessment tools to enhance staff performance, pharmacy operations, patient care, and ensure regulatory compliance.
Creates a harmonious work environment that promotes cooperative behavior and excellence in customer service.Exhibits effective leadership through communication, planning, and instructional skills.
Responsible for the development of pharmacy staff, new employee orientation, and ongoing training in collaboration with other pharmacy managers.
Accountable for the hiring, recruitment, retention, coaching, and counseling of pharmacy technician personnel.Inspires, develops, and directs staff, identifying potential leaders for advancement.
Advances professional practices by engaging in activities that promote professional development through education that enhances pharmacy practice.
Oversees all automation technology through evaluation, planning, and recommendations for new technologies to improve pharmacy operations or services.
Maintains effective communication to support optimal working relationships, fostering teamwork internally and externally with other departments and disciplines to enhance customer satisfaction and ensure high-quality care.
*Placement in the pay range is determined by various factors, including relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Experience:
5+ years of experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred, or completion of an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Residency Program and 4 years of experience in an acute care hospital setting.
Demonstrated experience and competency in operational improvement, clinical program and educational program development, organizational development, and financial management.
Ability to work collaboratively with strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements relevant to areas of responsibility (e.g., CA BOP, TJC, DHS, DEA, CMS).
Education/Certification:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy required.
Active licensure as a registered Pharmacist in California and in good standing with the CA BOP required.
