Job Overview

At the State University of New York at Cortland, we are seeking an Associate Director for Residence Life and Housing to join our team. This is a live-off position that plays a crucial role in identifying, recruiting, and retaining a diverse and inclusive professional and student staff. The associate director will serve as the primary contact with internal and external constituents, building and maintaining strong relationships and creating new opportunities for collaboration. This role includes direct supervision of professional staff and requires a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

About the Role

As the Associate Director for Residence Life and Housing, you will be responsible for developing practices that ensure diverse and inclusive representation of staff. You will lead the recruitment process for live-in professional staff, including marketing positions, creating and evaluating applications, attending conferences and job fairs, interviewing candidates, and coordinating interviews. Additionally, you will chair the Residence Life and Housing recruitment committee, coordinate the student staff discipline/coaching process, and create and maintain records of employment and payroll for Resident Assistants. You will also use campus hiring software for hiring professional staff members and regularly assess hiring practices upon request.

Summer Camps and Conferences

In this role, you will coordinate the hiring process of summer student staff, direct the housing program for outside groups, and facilitate billing for camps and conferences. You will also supervise staff assigned to camps and conferences and serve as the secondary supervisor for summer student staff members.

Supervision

As the Associate Director for Residence Life and Housing, you will supervise approximately 4-6 live-in professional staff and their associated buildings and hall staff. You will lead, manage, supervise, and support the development of supervisees in a manner that is appropriate to each individual and consistent with respective Bargaining Agreements and College policies and procedures.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a Master's degree in a related field, such as Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, etc. You will also require five years of progressive responsibility within a higher education setting, including supervising experience and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Additionally, you will need experience partnering with multiple college offices to benefit student success, experience with student affairs program assessment, and experience with Maxient, Housing Software, and/or Banner.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $72,000-$82,000, depending on experience.
