Job Overview

The U S National Whitewater Center is seeking dedicated Horticultural Maintenance Specialists to join our team. These professionals will work collaboratively in small groups to uphold the aesthetic appeal and meticulous upkeep of our facility's landscapes. Positions are available for both full-time, benefits-eligible roles and part-time employment, reporting directly to the Landscaping and Grounds Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance the grounds by ensuring the visual integrity of hardscapes, including roads, curbs, gutters, parking areas, pathways, stairways, fences, retaining walls, and stormwater management systems. Additionally, maintain and cultivate softscapes such as lawns, ornamental flora, gardens, landscape beds, natural habitats, and water retention zones.
  • Collaborate with various departments, facility teams, and contractors on maintenance tasks and projects.
  • Prioritize guest safety while operating landscape machinery, including blowers, trimmers, and mowers.
  • Function effectively as part of a small team and independently to accomplish assigned duties.
  • Perform other related tasks as directed.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in mowing and landscape upkeep.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-focused environment.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and during special events as required.

Physical Demands

  • Capable of lifting and transporting at least 75 pounds across various terrains.
  • Able to operate mowing equipment for extended periods.
  • Must frequently bend, stand, lean, and kneel for sustained durations.
  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain or confined spaces safely.
  • Must work collaboratively in shared environments with colleagues and guests.
  • All roles require on-site presence at designated locations.
  • Must endure outdoor work in diverse weather conditions for extended periods.

Department Overview

The Facilities Department is tasked with the maintenance of the property, stormwater management, construction projects, and landscaping efforts. This department oversees inspections, repairs, maintenance, and the safety of the U S National Whitewater Center's infrastructure and activities.
