Special Education Instructor

Job Summary
The Special Education Instructor provides support to all students and teachers with Special Education needs. This role is responsible for identifying students who require special education services and developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans in compliance with state requirements. The Instructor will also monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and communicate with teachers and staff to ensure the success of students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify students who require special education services and utilize proper channels for delivering services.
- Develop IEPs and 504 plans in compliance with state requirements.
- Monitor student progress and implementation of IEPs and 504 plans.
- Maintain accurate and compliant student records in the Student Information System (SIS).
- Communicate accommodations and modifications and student needs to teachers, coaches, and staff.
- Develop and provide professional development series related to Special Education to staff.
- Coordinate and deliver required health screenings.
- Have paraprofessionals assist with extra tutoring and push-ins.
- Teach remedial English and math, and potentially teach two classes with an IEP caseload.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a subject specialty is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of Special Education teaching experience is required.
- Current Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Teaching Certification in a subject specialty is required, dual licensure is preferred.
- Experience working with high school curriculum is preferred.
- Experience working with adult students in urban, non-traditional, and/or adult education settings is highly preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred.
Scope of Supervision
- No supervision responsibilities.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Current Maryland Teaching License is required.
- Must possess a current, valid driver's license and be fully insured according to Maryland law.

Travel Requirements
Travel is defined as travel to all areas within Goodwill's territory, including Cecil, Harford, Baltimore, Howard, and Anne Arundel Counties, Baltimore City, and the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland. In some cases, long-distance travel, including overnights, may be required but is typically planned in advance. In some cases, travel may be unplanned.
Up to 25% of working time.
Must have access to a personal vehicle.
