Position Overview:

The Harvard Graduate School of Design is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of design technology, nurturing leaders in design, research, and scholarship, and contributing to a resilient and equitable world.

We invite applications for full-time, tenure-track roles at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor specializing in Design Computation, particularly in areas related to fabrication, artificial intelligence/machine learning, and other relevant digital media disciplines.

While our primary focus is on filling tenure-track positions, we are also open to considering part-time roles for Assistant/Associate Professors in the Practice of Architecture.

This role is situated within the Department of Architecture, which offers both M.Arch I and M.Arch II degrees.

The selected candidate will be expected to engage with students and colleagues across the Architecture department and other programs within the school, including the Master in Design Studies and the Master in Design Engineering.


Teaching Duties:

The teaching responsibilities will mainly involve introductory courses in Computational Design / Digital Media and Digital Fabrication, alongside advanced courses in these fields or in artificial intelligence/machine learning.

The ideal candidate should also participate in design studio critiques and provide instruction in related subjects that form part of the core technology curriculum of the M.Arch I program. Examples of these subjects include structural design, construction technology, sustainability, computational design studio, and digital media. We seek candidates who are innovative researchers contributing to knowledge in the aforementioned technology areas.

A collaborative approach and a willingness to engage with the school's Center for Green Buildings and Cities and/or the Laboratory for Design Technology are essential.

Applicants should possess a strong record of research and teaching and demonstrate the ability to collaborate with related disciplines at Harvard, such as engineering and computer science.


Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates holding a doctoral degree in a relevant field; however, candidates with a Master's or advanced degree in Architecture or a related discipline who have exceptional experience and accomplishments will also be considered.

  • A statement of teaching philosophy and design/research interests, limited to 750 words, addressing:
    • Your pedagogical approach and how your projects and research align with architectural education goals.
    • Your proposed design/research agenda at the GSD.
    • Your approach to pedagogy and mentoring for a diverse student cohort, including specific examples.
