Position Overview:

The Senior Engineering Technician plays a crucial role in the innovation of new products, the enhancement of existing offerings, and the analysis of competitive solutions through thorough data collection, evaluation, and troubleshooting. This position entails the setup and operation of testing apparatus, the creation of novel testing procedures, and the exploration of best practices applicable within the organization. The technician is responsible for conducting component evaluations for both internal teams and external clients, meticulously documenting findings in comprehensive reports, and may travel independently for on-site assessments. Furthermore, this role includes the assembly and evaluation of prototype designs, providing essential feedback to the engineering team.

Key Duties:

  • Conduct sampling and evaluation of both in-house and vendor-supplied components based on engineering assessment requests.
  • Identify optimal strategies for fulfilling testing requirements, including the design and creation of new testing equipment.
  • Establish test setups and execute defined testing protocols on selected components.
  • Utilize precision measurement tools to capture and document component dimensions according to established guidelines.
  • Operate various data acquisition systems and methodologies to record testing outcomes.
  • Compile detailed reports summarizing testing results and disseminate them to relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and oversee inventory management of supplies.
  • Collaborate with design engineering teams to evaluate components under development and assemble/test product prototypes.
  • Provide insights on opportunities and challenges encountered during component assembly and testing.
  • Configure test setups, adaptors, and wiring, and create documentation for future reference.
  • Share observations with engineering personnel and suggest subsequent actions based on testing results.
  • Assist in the design and modification of both new and existing products.
  • Support cost-reduction efforts by evaluating new or alternative components for their impact on functionality and reliability.
  • Assess new technologies and testing methodologies to determine their effectiveness in identifying design flaws.
  • Engage with clients and sales representatives to address inquiries related to product functionality, testing, and performance.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks to ensure tools are organized and the workspace remains clean and orderly.
  • Execute additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A combination of four years of college or trade school education, or equivalent experience, along with technical or related experience. (Note: Equivalent education equals 2 years of closely related experience for 1 year of formal education.)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PLC Programming: Ideally, the candidate should possess the ability to program PLCs from the ground up and work with various software interfaces. A minimum of some PLC experience is preferred.
  • LabView: Preferably capable of configuring the GUI-based interface for developing new tests or establishing new data acquisition setups. At a minimum, some experience with the LabView GUI interface is required.
  • C++ Programming: Familiarity with C++ for LabWindows CVI (programming-based version of LabView) is preferred. If not proficient in C++, strong LabView GUI experience is desirable.
