SUMMARY:


The HVAC Systems Technician is responsible for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of the facility's heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for all individuals within the premises.

All tasks are performed in compliance with established protocols and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of Grade 12 education
  • Certification as a Third Class Stationary Engineer or Refrigeration Mechanic
  • A minimum of four years of hands-on training and experience with high-pressure boilers, large refrigeration systems, pneumatic, electric, and electric/pneumatic control systems, generating equipment, and HVAC systems
  • Proficient verbal and reading skills to interpret blueprints and technical manuals related to equipment operation and maintenance
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and implement solutions independently
  • Essential knowledge and experience with computerized building management systems
  • Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of water chilling systems, including reciprocating and centrifugal refrigeration machines, as well as heating equipment with high-pressure boilers and related energy conversion and transmission equipment
  • Previous experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key responsibilities include:
Operating the Computerized Building Automation System to monitor conditions, adjust set points, and troubleshoot issues.

Repairing and maintaining heating and cooling piping systems, including steamfitting tasks such as installing and securing heating units and connecting traps, valves, and thermostats to piping systems.

Adjusting functional components of devices and control instruments to ensure optimal operation of environmental systems and equipment.

Dismantling equipment to repair or replace defective mechanical/electrical components associated with refrigeration, power, heating, and cooling distribution systems.

Performing related duties to maintain cleanliness and general upkeep of assigned equipment.
Managing inventory, including ordering supplies and coordinating service contracts.

Acting as a relief Stationary Engineer for the 2nd Class Shift Stationary Engineers as needed, typically during periods of absence.

Complying with all safety regulations and maintaining a proactive maintenance schedule.
Executing additional duties and assignments as directed by the Supervisor or other Maintenance management personnel.
This position may require work across multiple campuses.

HOURS OF WORK:
Monday to Friday; day and afternoon shifts with occasional overtime

WAGE RATE:

Hourly:
$31.94, $32.58, $34.38
