Position Summary

As a Pet Care Specialist with Hillsborough County, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and happiness of various animals, primarily dogs and cats. Your commitment will contribute significantly to the welfare of these animals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive care for animals, including feeding, cleaning, exercising, and administering treatment.
  • Monitor and report on animal health, assist with adoption processes, and explain veterinary procedures.
  • Adhere to euthanasia protocols and maintain precise documentation.
  • Manage shelter placements and oversee inventory.
  • Ensure a hygienic and secure environment for both animals and visitors.
  • Assist the public with animal-related inquiries and provide essential information.
  • Support emergency response initiatives as necessary.
  • Perform additional related tasks as required.

Job Specifications

  • Familiarity with local animal care regulations.
  • Knowledge of sanitation and maintenance practices in animal facilities.
  • Ability to administer medications and treatments to animals.
  • Skills in supervising and organizing tasks efficiently.
  • Capacity to perform under pressure and in challenging environments.
  • Proficiency in using computers and relevant software applications.

Physical Demands

  • Engagement in heavy work involving physical activities across various weather conditions.
  • Ability to handle and restrain animals of varying sizes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of experience in animal care.
  • Valid Florida Driver License.
