Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Lifeguard to join our team at the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina, Inc. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our members and guests in and around our aquatic facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and Maintain Safety: Continuously monitor the pool area and surrounding spaces to prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment for all.
  • Emergency Response: Act quickly and effectively in emergency situations, performing water rescues, administering CPR, and providing first aid as needed.
  • Enforce Safety Rules: Politely but firmly enforce facility rules and regulations to prevent unsafe behavior and ensure a safe environment for all.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to our members and guests, answering questions, and assisting with any needs to ensure a positive experience at the facility.
  • Swim Instruction: Teach kids and adults how to swim, turning them into confident water enthusiasts.
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively with our team to ensure the safety and satisfaction of all guests.
  • Facility Maintenance: Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the pool area, including tidying up pool decks, arranging chairs, and ensuring the facility is safe and presentable.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of pool attendance, water quality, and any incidents or rescues that occur during your shift.
Requirements
  • Certified Lifeguard: Must have current lifeguard certification.
  • CPR and First Aid Certified: Knowing how to handle emergencies is key.
  • Strong Swimmer: You're not just good at swimming-you're a pro.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: You know how to keep things safe while ensuring everyone has a great time.

Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties. Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet. Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms. Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed. Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust. Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi-reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; shoveling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
