Overview

The Clinical Nurse Specialist in Ambulatory Care is responsible for delivering expert nursing services through comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation within outpatient and medical group practice environments. This role operates under established policies and procedures, guided by supervisory and managerial oversight.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will contribute to maintaining a secure work atmosphere and will execute all job functions in a safe manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather pertinent data related to the health of the patient or the clinical situation.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify actual or potential health issues.
  • Establish expected outcomes tailored to the individual patient or situation.
  • Formulate a plan that outlines strategies to achieve measurable health outcomes.
  • Implement the designated plan, coordinate care delivery, and utilize strategies to promote health and safety.
  • Delegate care responsibilities to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with legal and policy guidelines.
  • Assess progress towards achieving established goals and outcomes.
  • Practice in alignment with principles of cultural diversity and inclusion.
  • Communicate effectively across all areas of nursing practice.
  • Collaborate with patients and key stakeholders in nursing practice.
  • Exhibit leadership within the professional practice environment.
  • Pursue knowledge and skills that reflect contemporary nursing practices and encourage innovative thinking.
  • Incorporate evidence-based research findings into clinical practice.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of quality nursing services.

Evaluate personal and peer nursing practices against professional standards and regulations. Utilize appropriate resources to plan, deliver, and maintain evidence-based nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible. Adhere to environmentally safe and healthy practices, and uphold ethical standards in all professional activities. Foster shared governance and engage in decision-making processes that promote research aimed at improving clinical outcomes.

Physical Requirements

This role necessitates physical activities such as walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds is essential for handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English communication is required, along with intact sensory functions and finger dexterity. Critical thinking and the capacity to respond swiftly to changes in patient conditions are vital. Physical abilities testing may be required.

Qualifications

Applicants must be graduates of an accredited School of Nursing, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory as per policy guidelines. A current RN license or temporary RN license in the state of practice is required, with adherence to the relevant licensure requirements.
