About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at Duke Health. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our medical and nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist medical and nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients, including obtaining and recording data for medical records, collecting and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis, and undressing, cleansing, and positioning patients for specific procedures.
  • Perform routine examination and treatment procedures, including administering enemas, removing casts, cleaning wounds, and applying medications and dressings.
  • Set up and clean examination rooms, including changing linen and making beds, setting up instruments and equipment for specific procedures, and hand instruments, supplies, and equipment to examining physicians.
  • Pick up and deliver specimens, equipment, messages, and supplies as directed, and maintain inventory of supplies in examination rooms, replenishing as required.
  • Escort and transport patients to various hospital locations, schedule patient appointments, and prepare related records.
  • Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition, wash and sterilize medical supplies, and perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred; a High School diploma or GED graduation is required.
  • Work generally requires six months of experience in a healthcare setting; education in a health-related field can be used as a substitute for the experience.
  • Must be fully certified as a Medical Assistant (AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA) within 18 months of hire.
