Position: Plant Engineer

World Energy Sustainable Products stands at the forefront of North America's low carbon advanced biofuels sector, boasting extensive production and distribution capabilities. This role is situated at the World Energy Harrisburg facility.

This Plant Engineering position encompasses both process and project engineering responsibilities. The role involves evaluating operational strategies, ensuring compliance with machinery and process regulations, and guaranteeing that equipment operates safely and reliably while supporting capital project initiatives at the facility. This position is ideal for adept problem-solvers with a diverse range of engineering expertise who thrive in collaborative environments.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Duties

  • Oversee and enhance the maintenance of plant machinery to ensure optimal performance.
  • Address and resolve technical maintenance challenges.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance programs alongside maintenance personnel.
  • Assess equipment needs and assist in the procurement of necessary tools and machinery.
  • Identify maintenance issues and propose enhancements as needed.
  • Develop an effective schedule for production activities and aid in the installation and upkeep of machinery.
  • Collaborate with various departments to uphold the mechanical integrity of plant operations.

Training Responsibilities

  • Depending on experience, may instruct and support plant staff in implementing safety and quality control protocols to ensure compliance with regulations. This includes handling administrative tasks related to training, such as report generation and record updates.
  • Design and implement efficient training programs, ensuring all objectives are met within budgetary constraints.

Project Management

  • Evaluate project plans to confirm the accuracy of timelines and drawings, ensuring cost estimates align with budgetary goals. Provide guidance for necessary adjustments throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Supervise all capital improvement initiatives and organize performance evaluations, recommending training programs as needed.
  • Facilitate communication with the engineering department to assess upcoming capital projects and gather essential feedback regarding equipment and layouts.
  • Validate systems and prepare necessary documentation for installation processes.
  • Manage contractors on-site during project execution.

Compliance Oversight

  • Conduct regular audits of safety and mechanical integrity programs.
  • Ensure the facility adheres to relevant regulations, performing routine checks to confirm machinery and processes are safe.
  • Maintain a secure and efficient working environment for all personnel.
  • Guarantee compliance with state and federal regulations, designing appropriate maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
  • Compile reports for all activities, ensuring adherence to state and federal laws.

Operational Support

  • Develop operational strategies for projects, including renovations, maintenance, and machinery installations.
  • Oversee activities related to the manufacturing of new products and suggest improvements for existing offerings.
  • Review and enhance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), troubleshooting plant operations and assisting management in implementing necessary changes.
  • Assess production activities and generate reports on all operations, inspecting associated machinery and equipment.
  • Provide effective communication with all automation and validation processes, offering training to engineers and mechanics.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in mechanical, chemical, electrical, or industrial engineering, with 5-10 years of relevant experience in a production environment. Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential, and experience in leading a maintenance department is advantageous. Responsibilities will include managing key Process Safety Management (PSM) processes, including the Mechanical Integrity program, P&ID updates, and the Management of Change program.

The Plant Engineer should be a collaborative team member with strong mechanical skills and excellent diagnostic abilities.

  • Engineering Expertise: Proficient in all machinery utilized in the manufacturing process, ensuring peak efficiency and safety.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Capable of swiftly identifying and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Attention to Detail: Essential for spotting machinery problems and identifying process improvements.
  • Team Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for effective teamwork.

Education and Training Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, electrical, or industrial engineering is required. On-the-job experience in middle management within a manufacturing setting is preferred. Specific licenses and certifications may be necessary.
  • Familiarity with ASME piping and vessel codes, NFPA electrical and liquid storage codes, and Process Safety Management (PSM) is advantageous.
