About the Role

MITRE is seeking a Chief Environmental Engineer to support the expansion of our program in key areas for our sponsors. The successful candidate will interact with a technically diverse and collegial team of engineers and scientists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategies that push the technical boundaries for the work program, including identifying and maturing other areas of emerging technologies.
  • Help develop and mentor our next generation of technical thought leaders.
  • Identify and execute scientific and technical initiatives to address national and global environmental engineering opportunities and challenges.
  • Represent MITRE externally through professional engagement in advisory boards, study commissions, professional societies, academic publications, and other external venues.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Combination of education and work experience in Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in developing and executing against environmental engineering technology programs and initiatives in science and technology.
  • Record of high impact publications and participation in key technology community activities.
  • Technical expertise across a broad spectrum of environmental engineering technologies and the demonstrated ability to use this expertise to lead highly technical teams.
  • Background leading high-risk, high-reward technology development and applying this technology to solve critical challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience addressing and engaging with academic, industrial, government, and international partners in hydrology efforts.
  • Demonstrated track record leading national or international technology initiatives.
  • Experience in leading environmental engineering technology initiatives with Federal partners, such as the Department of Defense.
