About the Job

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Safe Patient Handling & Mobility Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating the Safe Patient Handling & Mobility Program at the facility level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and culture to ensure safe patient handling and mobility practices.
  • Lead the implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of the UPL Program.
  • Provide education and training to staff on safe patient handling and mobility practices.
  • Ensure compliance with governing body standards and evidence-based practices.
  • Conduct patient care ergonomic evaluations and track, review, and investigate injuries and incidents related to patient handling.
  • Identify and propose the purchase of necessary SPHM equipment.
  • Collaborate with Safety and Infection Control to improve program performance and outcomes.
  • Communicate SPHM Program goals and initiatives with key administrators and leaders.
Requirements
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Strong background in clinical nursing, particularly in areas that require frequent patient handling, such as med-surg., critical care, and rehabilitation.
  • Familiarity with ergonomics, body mechanics, and the principles of safe patient handling and mobility.
