Senior Vice President of Nursing Services

The Senior Vice President of Nursing Services is a pivotal role within the organization, acting as the Nurse Executive for the Nursing Department and serving as a key member of the executive leadership team. This position is accountable for the strategic and operational oversight of nursing services, ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with leaders across the organization, including the governing body and medical staff, to shape and review the mission, strategic initiatives, budgetary considerations, and operational policies of the hospital.
  • Formulate a comprehensive nursing care strategy that aligns with the hospital's mission, vision, and core values, while prioritizing patient assessments, interventions, education, and the safeguarding of patient rights.
  • Collaborate with clinical and management teams to establish integrated patient care systems that enhance the quality of care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, working alongside leadership to promote and assess performance enhancement activities.
  • Design and implement programs aimed at attracting, retaining, and developing nursing staff, ensuring continuous professional growth.
  • Recognize and reward the contributions of nursing staff engaged in patient care through established mechanisms.
  • Oversee the evaluation and integration of management information systems that optimize nursing resource utilization.
  • Guide compliance with healthcare regulations and legislative requirements.
  • Stay informed about evolving healthcare standards, legislative changes, and community health needs.
  • Prepare and present annual departmental goals and performance evaluations to executive leadership.
  • Manage the nursing budget in collaboration with fellow nursing leaders and hospital staff.
  • Work with nursing leadership to assess staffing needs and develop effective staffing models.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of new services, ensuring nursing requirements are met.
  • Coordinate patient placement for nursing care through the hospital admission system.
  • Establish and endorse professional nursing standards and practices in collaboration with nursing staff, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate collaboration among nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Promote evidence-based nursing practices and explore innovative care delivery models to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Monitor staffing acuity and productivity in partnership with Clinical Directors.
  • Implement performance improvement initiatives that align with the hospital's mission and priorities.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Education and Clinical Directors to ensure clinical and managerial training opportunities for staff.
  • Act as a mentor and resource, fostering educational growth for nursing personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing with a Master's degree in a healthcare-related field or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) required.
  • Current Registered Professional Nurse license in the State of New York. Leadership certification preferred.
  • Expertise in leadership, management, and performance improvement strategies, with a proven ability to enhance patient care delivery.
  • Progressive leadership experience in a Magnet-designated facility is highly desirable.
  • Experience with achieving recognized awards in nursing excellence is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma principles is advantageous.
  • Commitment to personal educational advancement and supervisory experience in nursing administration within an acute care setting.
