Senior Financial Accountant

The department's mission is to safeguard company assets, ensure timely and precise external reporting, analyze financial trends and issues, and collaborate with various business units. This collaboration will employ analytical tools to support leadership in making informed, fact-based decisions that drive profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough evaluations and perform reconciliations of balance sheets, including comprehensive reviews of accounts and sub-ledgers related to premiums, commissions, and receivables.
2. Ensure that all account reviews are complete, accurate, and substantiated by appropriate documentation in accordance with statutory accounting standards and internal controls.
3. Assist in the monthly and quarterly financial reporting processes, providing insightful analysis of financial statements across all company entities.
4. Play a significant role in preparing quarterly and annual financial statements, including all necessary disclosures, supporting schedules, and internal communication materials.
5. Analyze month-end closing activities to identify discrepancies, coding errors, and other issues that require investigation or escalation to management, including the preparation, review, upload, and posting of journal entries.
6. Engage actively in audit preparations and contribute to the development of processes, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with relevant statutory accounting principles and regulations.
7. Collaborate with the IT department to enhance and automate processes wherever feasible.
8. Participate in special assignments and projects across various business areas to support the company's growth objectives.
9. Perform any additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related discipline is required. CPA designation and/or MBA is preferred.
- A minimum of three years of experience in statutory accounting is essential.
- At least one year of experience with a Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance company or an accounting firm servicing insurance clients is necessary.
- Proficiency in general ledger management, journal entry preparation, and monthly and annual closing processes is expected.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with effective time management abilities, are crucial.
- Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills are required.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote, are essential.
- Familiarity with Sage Intacct or similar accounting software is advantageous.
- Must be available to work onsite during standard business hours.
The compensation for this position will be determined based on experience and other permissible factors.
