Role Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable for delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients within the GI department, adhering to established protocols and standards. Key responsibilities include supervising unlicensed personnel, assessing patient needs, planning and implementing care strategies, educating patients and their families, executing treatment plans, and evaluating patient outcomes. The RN must effectively communicate and document all relevant patient information.

The RN plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of nursing care through continuous improvement initiatives, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery. Participation in on-call rotations and cross-training in the pre-operative department is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Employ the nursing process and established standards to manage patient care effectively.
  • Analyze assessment data to formulate nursing diagnoses and appropriate interventions.
  • Exhibit strong critical thinking and leadership skills in coordinating patient care.
  • Delegate tasks to both licensed and unlicensed staff as necessary.
  • Utilize clinical information systems for accurate patient documentation.
  • Develop and implement educational plans tailored to patient learning needs, involving family members as appropriate.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for new staff members.
  • Engage in self-development and professional growth activities, including peer review.
  • Identify and address patient issues, reporting them to the appropriate team members.
  • Ensure that care meets the specific needs of diverse patient populations, including adolescents, adults, and seniors.
  • Contribute to a safe and effective working environment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and effective interpersonal skills in all interactions.
  • Manage multiple tasks efficiently and prioritize effectively.

Qualifications

  • Current California RN license.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications from the American Heart Association.
  • Certification in Gastroenterology Nursing (CGRN) preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of acute care experience in a GI Lab or Peri-Anesthesia setting is required; strong educational background may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
