Job Summary:
Amergis is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Support Assistant to join our team. As a School Support Assistant, you will work closely with students who require instructional and behavioral assistance under the supervision of the special education department and/or supervising designee.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement IEP objectives, including math, reading, speech, independent skills, and managing behavioral deficits and excesses, one on one or as a general classroom assistant.
- Facilitate teacher-directed learning activities, including lesson plans, worksheets, reinforcement systems, small groups, social games, and work assistance.
- Assist students during general education classes and accompany them during recess and lunch periods, as well as community experiences.
- Communicate pertinent information to teachers and maintain confidentiality regarding all matters pertaining to students, parents, and classroom activities.
- Assist with activities of prescribed programs, including those written by related service personnel, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology.
- Support students in developing independent skills through self-care activities, such as toileting, clothing routines, feeding, and personal hygiene.
- Participate in behavior management techniques, as directed by the teacher and/or other school professionals.
- Assist with clerical duties, including making stimuli, making copies, maintaining a clean and organized classroom, preparing materials, and assignment scoring.
- Assist with transfers and ambulation.
- Report changes in client status or as directed by the IHP/IEP.
Requirements:
- Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice.
- Participate and complete Amergis' Competency program, when applicable.
- Hold current CPR certification, if applicable.
- Meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successfully complete new hire training, as applicable to the job site.
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
- Possess strong communication skills and proficiency in the English language.
- Be computer proficient.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hold a paraprofessional license.
- Hold an associate's degree or 60 college credit hours.
- Hold a bachelor's degree.
