Job Purpose

The role of the Mechanical Engineer IV is to provide expertise in Mechanical Engineering for Cape Design Engineering (CDE), a subsidiary of 8-koi. This position involves leading the HVAC design team across various project types, managing teams, and engaging directly with clients. The candidate will be actively involved in all phases of project development, from initial design to final construction completion. Additionally, this role includes responsibilities in departmental and office management. CDE / 8-koi is a well-established service and consulting firm based in Florida, recognized for delivering exceptional results to clients for over a decade.

Duties and Responsibilities

The applicant will be expected to manage multiple projects related to HVAC and plumbing systems design for buildings and industrial applications. Key responsibilities include:
  • Overseeing multiple HVAC design projects through various phases including concept, SD, DD, and CA.
  • Serving as the primary contact for clients and representing the team in project meetings.
  • Leading efforts for Investment Grade Audits (IGAs).
  • Coordinating in-house resources effectively.
  • Training and mentoring junior staff members.
  • Assisting with marketing efforts and proposal presentations.
  • Preparing project budgets and ensuring adherence to timelines and schedules.
  • Planning and obtaining necessary work authorizations for scope changes.
  • Conducting standard computations and analyses.
  • Observing construction activities to ensure compliance.
  • Performing basic survey work as needed.
  • Preparing segments of project documentation.
  • Editing specifications to meet project requirements.
  • Conducting research and investigations to support project goals.
  • Designing comprehensive project solutions and preparing complete project documentation.
  • Providing technical expertise and support to upper management and staff.
  • Participating in the review of project documents for quality assurance.
  • Acting as the technical expert for the mechanical engineering team.
  • Staying updated on new developments and requirements to recommend program changes.
  • Assisting in the creation of standards and guidelines for the department.
  • Reviewing project documents for compliance and quality assurance.
Additional tasks may be assigned by superiors. The Mechanical Engineer IV will hold managerial responsibilities, serving as both department and project lead. This requires the candidate to:
  • Review and approve project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Prepare proposals for professional services or funding for engineering projects.
  • Supervise a team of engineers, technicians, and consultants.
  • Plan and coordinate the preparation of documents for multiple projects or manage an entire program.
  • Review operational procedures to ensure compliance with policies and performance metrics.
  • Maintain CDE / 8-koi Company Standards and Practices.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution is required.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on facility design.
  • Project management experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience with Investment Grade Audits (IGAs) is beneficial.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, HAP, and Trane TRACE is required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word is necessary.
  • A Professional Engineer license in the State of Florida is required or the ability to obtain one via reciprocity within 60 days of hire.
  • Additional certifications such as LEED AP, LEED BD+C, or various AEE certifications are advantageous.
  • U.S. Citizenship or a valid US Work Visa (Green Card) is required.
Active involvement in professional organizations is encouraged.
